Ready for Sectionals!

by Mary on March 9, 2013

I’m in Pasadena for the Pacific Coast Adult Skating Sectionals. Boy, the last month has been a scramble to get ready, but I’m here, The skates are sharpened and clean with new laces, the dress measured, made, fitted, stoned, and picked up the day before I left. I bought makeup, had my hair done, and my nails are glittery purple– not really my thing, but they match my costume perfectly. A good thing, since I got my nails done before my dress was finished and had to guess on the color.

Since Sectionals are a month earlier than Nationals I’ve had to push to get my program together and some days it was hard to make it up the stairs at the end of the day, but I think it’s there or at least presentable. There’s been a lot of skating, a lot of hot packs, icing, stretching, PT exercises and massage in my life in the last month to make it work. I hope I give it a credible performance tomorrow.

My husband and I flew down yesterday, crazy early flight with a stopover in SF that was a hustle to make. Drove from the airport to the ice rink in Culver City where I had a lesson with a local coach. I’d met him before when I’d skated at the Culver City rink on previous visits to LA, he teaches an adult class there that I’d dropped in on a couple of times. He will coach me at the competition tomorrow. I felt a lot better about this whole thing after I called down to the rink in Culver City and was able to reconnect with him.

Now I’m here and getting to meet some of the other competitors and see  some of the events that are before mine. It’s pretty inspiring. Wish me luck tomorrow!
