Pinedale Skating

Faithful Toula

Hi friends. I’m in Pinedale, Wyoming this week to visit and skate with coach Ty. This is a small town but it has a really nice rink where Ty is now the skating director. So far I’ve been in skating heaven. We had the ice to ourselves during the public session both yesterday and today.

The sweet dog above is Ty’s faithful companion Toula. She is known and loved by many, including me. Her eyes never leave Ty while he skates.

Ty is starting an adult edge class, but since today was the first day of it and club communication was unclear, I was the only student. Ty taught edge class a couple of times in Seattle, and those were among my favorite edge classes ever. Today was relaxing and fun too.

Ty’s given me great tips on my moves, program, and we’ve even dusted off the Foxtrot a little. I hadn’t skated it since he left town.

I’m staying at the Log Cabin Motel in Pinedale. It was built in 1929 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The cabins are recently renovated and extremely cute (and affordable). If you are ever in Pinedale I recommend it.

I don’t want to leave, but my next stop is enticing. I’ll be going to the Adult Getaway through the 7K Skating Academy in Monument, Colorado. Looking forward to hanging out with all the other adult skaters.

Oooh, awesome skating adventures! That dog is soooo cute, and the cabin is equally adorable. I’m so glad you got to hang out with your former coach. I want a full report on the Adult Getaway–won’t be able to getaway myself for a while, so I’m living vicariously through your skating adventures!

The getaway was really nice, they have a very positive atmosphere at that rink. It will take me a while to digest what I learned there but I’m inspired. Ty is still one of my coaches in my mind, I plan to and skate with him when I can.

Oh Mary how wonderful that you were able to visit and skate with Ty. Sounds just what you both needed.

The cabin is awesome. Maggie would love it.

Enjoy Colorado too! How long is your winter vacation?

Just back last night. Yeah it was really a good thing, really glad I went (to both Pinedale and Denver).

I love that cabin motel room! And Toula! So glad you had a private edge class with Ty. Why doesn’t that ever happen for my group classes? They always have MORE skaters than I hoped, which of course is good for the rink. Sounds like it was a fun and productive side trip. Have fun at 7K seminar! Maybe I can do that someday.

Melissa, I think you would love it. Something to consider for your calendar for sure, especially if/when you are not as enthusiastic about competitions. With the exhibitions we still get to cheer each other on and there’s lots more togetherness and sharing besides.

I’m back home now, but yes I got a lot out of both parts of my trip, really glad I went! Toula is such a sweetie, and I even got some gentle licks.

My mom looked into it and she says it’s a 1950 fridge made by Ford (Philco was a division of Ford). Toula is just the cutest, I’m glad I got to see her too. I did get some good guidance on my skills, now I just need to integrate all the advice and practice, practice!
