Pacific Coast Sectionals 2019

by Mary on April 29, 2019

I enjoyed Pacific Coast Sectionals this year. I’m happy I was able not only to participate, but to skate my program with love for the music and for skating. This was the first time that my sisters got to watch me skate a program. That was one of the reasons I had wanted to compete in Oakland so I was really glad they both came, it was special for all of us.

St. Moritz Skating Club worked so hard to put on a quality event. The medals and graphic design for the event were beautiful and there were little touches like putting a mini schedule on the back of each competitor’s name tag. The event hotel was nice, and very near the ice rink.

I received third place out of eight in my Bronze Dramatic event. It was my first year in Bronze Ladies IV, the 56-65 y.o. age group.  I’ve written before about how random the judging can be in the entertainment events, and I stand by that, but the medal was very pretty and I was glad to receive it. I’d been so convinced that I would not place that I’d taken off my skates and dress, and photobombed the medal photo in my street clothes.

I was never able to get my video and photos from the event and haven’t been able to straighten that out with the vendors. I went straight from Sectionals to the Adult Skating Camp in Monument, which was quite an adventure with a severe blizzard. I know I’ve been very slow on this blog lately but I hope to share about that.

What a beautiful photo of you, Mary! And how wonderful that your sisters got to watch you skate (and win a bronze medal)! I can’t wait to hear about your experience at the Monument skating camp.

Mary, that is wonderful that you both enjoyed and medaled at Sectionals! I am so happy to hear that your sisters were there to cheer you on–that’s makes it even more special. I’m impressed that you went directly to Adult Skating camp, especially with the bad weather (scary–I am all too familiar with spring snows here in Minnesota). Hope the rest of the spring is warm and sunny and I look forward to an update when you have time.
