A Program for my Dad

by Mary on July 30, 2013

Mary with rose

I skated this program Friday in memory of my dad, who passed away this spring. Thank you coach Lisa for listening to my idea of skating with a rose and choreographing something so appropriate. I love this piece, Patrick O’Hearn’s “Beyond This Moment,” but previously considered it much too sad to skate to. For this program, though, it felt just right, and it’s been helpful for me to get to skate to this music. I don’t feel done with this program and am missing skating it already. It let me feel almost like I was spending time with my dad, or at least with my feelings for him.

Coach Lisa says this program will be one that I won’t forget, one that will stay in my repertoire for life, and I think she’s right. I will skate it again, maybe for my dad’s birthday. I miss you, Dad.

A beautiful programme, I’m sorry to hear of your loss but your Dad would be so proud. Beautiful skating.

Thanks, Rosie, I appreciate that, it’s been a good thing for me these last few months to spend the time listening to this music and skating this program with the rose, kind of feels like I’m spending time with him.

Thanks, Kalie, it was my pleasure to skate this program for your grandpa. I liked how you had the rose tied with a purple ribbon, it looked very nice.
