What could be better than skating outdoors in the summer sunshine surrounded by a great old lodge and beautiful mountains? That’s Sun Valley. My husband and I were there for the ice show, the setting, and for me to skate and him to do yoga. One of my favorite memories is Jonathon Hunt teaching an adult Coffee Club group lesson in dark sunglasses. He led us through warmups used by the Ice Theatre of New York, lunges, swizzles and turns with big, balletic arm movements, to music that could have come from my favorite Pandora station. At our break I texted my husband, “I am in heaven.”
The photo is Jonathon and his pairs partner Natalia Zeitseva during the Sun Valley Ice Show on August 23rd. There’s also a video of their program from that night. I love their music, which is from the movie The Artist, and I could see skating to it. I often pick music with a similarly wistful quality.
Headlining the show that night were reigning Olympic ice dance champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White. Got a lotta photos of them to share, so….. their Scheherezade long program that they took to Sochi:
And their exhibition program:

They did all hang around afterward to meet folks, I didn’t participate in that except to say hi to my own coach, it didn’t feel right at that moment. But I did get to meet some of the skaters later in the Coffee Club sessions and at the seminars for the adults.
That *does* sound like heaven! Sounds like I need to add Sun Valley to my bucket list!
I so want to see Meryl and Charlie perform before they fully retire… I’m worried I’m running out of opportunities. How exciting that you got to see them!
Definitely add it to your bucket list! Does Stars on Ice come to your city? I hope they will still be in it next year. I’ve been lucky in seeing them several times. I got to see them at the Detroit Skating Club ice show and at a meet and greet afterward a few years ago, that was really special.
Thanks for sharing these gorgeous photos with us! These really capture how beautiful these skaters are.
