I wish more of Sun Valley on Ice had been videoed so I could show you this fun Ghostbusters number with my ice dance coach Ty Cockrum. A prime motivation for me to visit Sun Valley was to see Ty in the show and get some lessons with him, I miss him when he’s gone!
More great skaters and programs from Sun Valley on Ice:
Ryan Bradley: His music, Avicii’s Wake Me Up, is one of my favorites of the recent hits (my son tells me ‘everyone loves that music’) but it can’t be easy to skate to. Ryan pulls it off with his musicality and amazing footwork. I especially like the footwork starting at 2:20.
Anita Hartshorn and Frank Sweiding: These two have been skating together for many years. They are older than me and still performing professionally year-round as one of the most entertaining acts out there. Check out their cute and inventive ‘Babies and Bugs’ program:
Jumpin’ Joe Sabovčík, the 1984 Olympic Bronze Medalist, another skater who is about my age and not only coaching (including at least one adult skater) but performing. His split jumps are gorgeous. I love his soulfulness and of course, his flowing long hair.
Craig Heath: I saw Craig for the first time in the show. He really acts his characters in his show skating and he’s an expert spinner with extremely well-centered spins. Luckily for us adult skaters, he hosted Coffee Club one morning and also taught us a Spin Seminar.
I learned so much from that and from a couple of spin lessons I took from him. He’s a very nurturing coach who has advice for all aspects of the skating life. I have a skating friend who makes it a tradition to get a spin lesson from him whenever she can make it to Sun Valley, that sounds like a great tradition to have!
Craig skated this perky cowboy number for us:
I’d also really love to show you this number Craig skated in the next week’s show, ‘X,’ choreographed by Brian Wright. Thanks to Craig I have gotten to know and love Brian Wright’s choreography.
Kim Navarro and Brent Bommentre, two-time US bronze medalists in ice dance and a joy to watch, skated for us in the show and also coached during adult skating week. They had a fun, playful banter going between them and gave really helpful tips on mohawks and three turns. Brent coached a Coffee Club, too, I’m still working on the exercise he gave us for developing more power from forward outside edges.
Think about getting to Sun Valley next year!

Thanks, Marcia, it was indeed very fun. Ryan Bradley is just meant to be a show skater don’t you think?
How fun! I used to love watching Joe Sabovčík in ice shows (on tv). In fact, he inspired me to name my flute Axel, just like he named his son the same name. I named another flute Blade, in case you were wondering… 🙂

Very sweet that you named your flutes! I never thought to name my instrument…
What fun! I’ve never been to Sun Valley, but have always wanted to go there to ski. I really enjoyed watching the videos!! Ryan Bradley was amazing!!! Thanks so much for sharing 🙂

Hi Susan, thanks for taking the time to check it out, I’m glad I could give you a taste of the show. Ryan Bradley IS amazing, I just love that routine of his! And there always has to be a backflip in there when Ryan Bradley is involved….
